About Us

Mamie's School of Dance, in business for 37 years, was founded in 1978 under the artistic direction of Mamie Robinson.

Our early years took us to such places as New York City and Myrtle Beach, SC for dance workshops and competitions.  We soon added clogging to our classes and we enjoyed many trips to Maggie Valley, NC to learn new variations at the Stomping Grounds.  We auditioned in 1987 to dance at Dollywood, Dolly Partons theme park. We won the audition and had the opportunity to perform there each summer for about 10 years.

Soon after that, we were invited to be part of Disneys "Happy Easter Parade" and "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas" celebration, after which, we were honored to be featured performers on a Disney TV Christmas special.  Our dancers were also featured at Epcot during the Fourth of July festivities for many years.   Other performance venues include Cypress Gardens, The Big Red Boat, and Holland America's "Zuiderdam".

Competition has allowed our studio to challenge students, providing opportunites for growth.  From Myrtle Beach to Gatlinburg, New York City, and various cities in Florida, many awards have been won.  Never settling for second best has also inspired many students to continue dancing throughout their lives.  Numerous team members have opened their own studios and many have gone on to dance professionally.  We have students who have toured in Japan and across Europe, one who had the opportunity to tour with Janet Jackson and dance on music videos.  We have performers at theme parks, on cruise ships, and other various dance related positions.  Several others have gone on to dance with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cheerleaders and were selected to participate with the USO shows overseas for our troops.

I am proud to have been part of each of these lives and I hope they pass on the gift of dance to others.
